“Adeste fidèles” and “Minuit, chrétiens” are probably the most famous carol without coming from popular origins. It is famous but not traditional. It is as much famous as “Les anges dans nos campagnes” and “Stille Nacht.” It is often sung in Christmas concerts. It is so much fixed into French collective memories that the public usually sing in unison when performed. There were as many arrangements as musicians, and choirmasters have many choices. The version we suggest is very simple to learn. It can be sung a semitone lower depending on tenors.
