This is a sheet music of a four-voice motet published in 1605 for the Feast of Corpus Christi. As it is simple and its vertical texture is clear, it was used in a great number of manuscripts and it became one of the most famous sheet music of Renaissance English church music. The second part is repeated twice, and the different voices positions enhance “dulcis” and “Jesu.” Imitation and call and response are enhanced by the manner of writing. The “Miserere mei” is highlighted through a harmonic refinement. The final “Amen” echoes with the values and balances of the beginning.
