Opera for children choir, written by Violaine Fournier, composition by Julien Le Hérissier :
Did you know that our numbers and the zero are not really Arabic?
Did you know that the word calcul comes from the Latin calculus, the pebble, used by the first men to count?
Did you know that mathematics, beyond its studious application, is a philosophy of life and the universe?
As you travel through the ages and across the globe, set off in song to discover this rich and amazing world, passing through India, where the most famous mathematician is called... Bhaskaracharya!
You will cross the styles from antiquity to rock, the countries of Indian fashions with Hispanic accents, and perhaps you will find the musical rebus associated with Bhaskaracharya...
Opera for children's choir (SA) and instrumental ensemble (viola, cello, harp and piano) or piano :
Bhaskaracharya is an opera for children's choir, corresponding to the end of the 1st cycle of choral singing FM.
It was created with and by children, on a proposal of theme of their teachers: mathematics.
Their drawings, their desires, their remarks were the flesh of this project.
From the opening to the end, the children's initiatory journey, at first glance well bothered by their table of nine, allows them to explore the History of Mathematics in many aspects, from the most practical to the most symbolic, by travelling through both time and space.
Whereas today mathematics is often perceived as a discipline, certainly with numerous applications, but reserved for a small group of cerebral performers (the famous "matheux"), this opera gives back their humanity to these symbols created by man to understand the relationship they have with each other and with the world around them.
