The news of Prosper MÉRIMÉE went around the world thanks to Georges BIZET's masterful musical setting. Pierre Gérard VERNY has revisited this masterpiece and adapted it for choir (SAB), narrator, saxophones and jazz trio: a very remarkable work that plunges us into Carmen's passionate and dramatic universe. The CD (sold separately but whitch can't be sold alone) is a useful complement to the publication of Carmen in swing. It has been designed and produced for listening to the work but also as a working tool to help choir conductors and choristers.

Prelude :

 

Spain, 1820. Morning is drawing to an end in Seville, on the main square next to the tobacco factory where Carmen is employed.
It is there, on this very square, that about fifteen soldiers are gathered in front of a guardhouse, all of them dragoons of the Alcala regiment.
These men sit smoking while they watch the passers-by.
The crowd of busy people coming and going. The frenzy amuses Morales, the corporal on guard duty, up until a young woman who seems to be looking for one of the soldiers arrives on the square.
Spotted by Morales, the young Micaela admits to be searching for Corporal Don Jose. Morales, while trying to keep her, informs her that Don Jose will not come until the changing of the guard, when the new guard relieves the guard going off duty…
Then suddenly, Micaela runs off…
