These are two melancholic poems written by Jean Cocteau in the 1930s. “L’éloge de la neige” is sung by three homophonic female voices, like a praise for silence. At the same time, two male voices sing opposite each other the last verses of “Es regnet” (it’s raining). Kurt Weill wrote in German for Jean Cocteau. Kurt Weill lived in Paris and composed another German piano-vocals lied based on this text.
