Composition for a cappella choir with 4 mixed voices SATB by César Geoffray, text from psalm 118 (117)

César Geoffray's music demonstrates his mastery of composition for a cappella choir. This is a piece that would be equally at home on a concert programme or in a church service.

Dextera Domini (‘the right hand of the Lord’) are the opening words of a biblical text that has inspired many musical works.

The biblical text
Dextera Domini uses verses 16 and 17 of Psalm 118 (Psalm 117 in the Vulgate).
Dextera Domini fecit virtutem, dextera Domini exaltavit me.
Non moriar, sed vivam, et narrabo opera Domini.

The right hand of the Lord has exalted me.
I shall not die, but live and tell of the works of the Lord.

This antiphon is usually sung at the offertory of Holy Thursday Mass, at the beginning of the Easter triduum, the office that commemorates Jesus' Last Supper. It is also sung at the Easter offertory.
