This is one of the most beautiful rustic songs by Claudin de Sermisy based on a verse-and-chorus structure. It is also one of the most famous: it was copied three times (1535, 1538, and 1546). Other composers like Pierre Certon, Jhan Gero and Orlande de Lassus were inspired by this drinking song. The latter arranged it into a beautiful parodic mass for standard mixed choirs.
Claudin de Sermisy worked with the French court. He created about 150 songs, 13 masses and 70 motets.
