Marie-Madeleine, one of Christ's companions, is a legendary figure, and Marseille, like Vézelay and other French sites, is proud of her visit or stay. She has inspired numerous authors, painters and composers. Despite its frequent unisons, this work is intended for experienced vocal ensembles.
It can be performed with piano or with orchestra (on hire): 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 1 trombone, 4 timpani, percussion and strings. The title of the work - "Le miroir de...” (The mirror of...) - is already an indication of the process used by the composer: mirroring, which consists in applying the inversion of intervals to all the voices of a polyphony. The melodic and harmonic elements of a polyphony are thus symmetrically reproduced in reverse order, as if reflected by a mirror.
