Music by Gabriel Fauré composed in 1879 sur un poème de Sully Prudhomme, arrangement Bastien Bernier for 3 equal voices choir and piano

The text describes the cradles on shore as opposed to the great ships on the sea, the women, mothers and wives who stay and wait for the sailors away at sea. The melody here is arranged for 3-voice choir.

Duration : 2'30''

This is one of Gabriel Fauré's best-known melodies. It's a French melody standard, adapted for equal-part choir. This arrangement offers vocal ensembles the opportunity to take on this repertoire, usually performed by soloists, and to offer the rich sound of a women's choir whose expressiveness, homogeneity and purity of tone lend themselves perfectly to the interpretation of this work, while respecting the versatility of Fauré's melodies, their delicate simplicity and highlighting the subtle palette of harmonic colors he uses.

Bastien Bernier :
Passionate about writing music as a teenager, he began self-taught composing and arranging for contemporary music projects and music applied to images. In 2016 he pushed open the doors of the Nice CRR to join M. Martelli's harmony classes, where he gained a solid technique in harmony and counterpoint. He then joined the Lyon CRR in 2019, where he obtained a DEM in composition in 2021.
He has supplemented his classical training with jazz and has taken part in various projects as a composer and arranger. Inspired by the work of singers and choral conductors, who have given him a wealth of knowledge about voice, he focuses particularly on arrangements for choirs, ranging from children's voices to mixed choirs.
