Messe en UT - Gounod

Messe en UT - Gounod

(Code: A121900725)

"Messe en UT", by Charles Gounod arranged for 3 mixed voices choir (SAB) and piano by Pierre Calmelet. This arrangement allows all the choirs to take possession of this major work of the repertoire, until now reserved for two equal voices ensembles. Its stripped down and very singing character always enthuses the spectators as well as the choristers. In addition, all the voices benefit from a reasonable ambitus, allowing a great comfort for all the tessitura giving free rein to a beautiful work of interpretation.

"Messe en UT", by Charles Gounod arranged for 3 mixed voices choir (SAB) and piano by Pierre Calmelet::

The discovery of the music of Palestrina and Bach during his stay in Rome was a source of inspiration for Charles Gounod (1818-1893). He can be classed among the great "céciliens", "cécilianism" being a movement in favour of a return to ancient music, to Gregorian chant, to the counterpoint of the 16th century. Imbued with a deep religious feeling, it is naturally that Gounod sacrificed to this fashion, as shown in works such as this ravishing mass.

Harmonized for three mixed voices (SAB) and piano.

This arrangement allows all the choirs to take over this major work of the repertoire, hitherto reserved for ensembles with two equal voices.
Its simple and very vocal character always enthralls spectators and choir members alike. In addition, all the voices benefit from a reasonable ambitus, allowing a great comfort for all the tessitura giving free rein to a beautiful work of interpretation.
For the purists, the original work for two equal voices and organ (or harmonium) is available:
