Work for choir SATB and piano or instrumental ensemble on popular themes
This is a Latin mass based on popular French popular melodies for mixed choirs, solos, old, classical and traditional instruments. The tradition is to write a mass based on a popular melody and there are many examples of these across the globe like "Messe de l’homme armé,” composed by Josquin des Prez, Quebec and Breton masses written by Pierick Houdy and "Misa criolla” written by Ariel Ramirez.
This "Missa Gallica” is particular because it is not written with a singular musical theme or as many themes as sequences. It is written with as many themes as verses within each sequence, so there are more than thirty French popular tunes.
