This version of Mozart's Requiem for mixed-voice choir (KV 626) is still the best known today, and is historically probably the closest to the composer.

The history and origin of the Requiem is surrounded by legends and anecdotes.
Exhaustion from the composition and performances of "La Clemenza di Tito" and "Die Zauberflöte" and an acute infection led to the composer's bankruptcy and death after a short illness.
Mozart left Constance with considerable debts, which led her to ask for help from Mozart's friends to finish the fragment.
After two failures, Mozart's pupil Franz Xaver Süßmayr took on the task, and completed the Requiem in its present form.
He had at his disposal sources that have now disappeared, perhaps also oral indications from Mozart.
