Collection of songs composed by Francis Poulenc in 1936, on poems by Paul Éluard extracted from La Vie Immédiate (2, 3, 4, 5, 7) and Guillaume Apollinaire (1 and 6).
These pieces open Poulenc’s series of choral works and are in line with Claude Debussy's Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans, which combine the popular aspect (to which the title of the songs refers) with great elegance.
