Melody for two Voices and piano, music by Christophe des Longchamps - text by Jean-Marie Fichter
This melody is based on a very brief poem by Jean-Marie Fichter, a french writer, choirmaster and composer himself. It evokes the flash of an impetuous climatic episode, whose sudden violence contrasts with the unperturbed horizontality of the passage of time.
This work has an obvious educational value.
Although not strictly speaking an "étude”, this work is pedagogical, if only because of its dedication to children's choirs (the two authors founded and co-directed the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Brive en Limousin). Its implementation is variable in geometry, as the two groups may have different timbres, which will enhance the imitative writing. Articulation, which is almost theatrical, is accentuated. Harmony is not a difficulty here, as the phrases themselves are based on natural harmonics and intervals that are part of our vocal heritage, such as fifths and thirds.
The only real difficulties are the chromatic descents, which should be exploited with precision, as they lead to a lull in the overall movement.
As a velocity game, the total performance should not exceed one minute.
