From the opera Madama Butterfly, the aria of Cio-Cio San (1904), libretto by Luigi ILLICA and Giuseppe GIACOSA, music by Giaocomo PUCCINI (1858-1924). Arrangement for SATB choir by Emmanuel ROBIN.
In Nagasaki, a young American officer in stopover, Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, rents a traditional house and marries on this occasion a fifteen years old geisha, Cio-Cio San (Which means "Madame Butterfly" in Japanese).
Three years passed. Still hoping for the return of Pinkerton, of whom she has no more news, Cio-Cio San remains nevertheless faithful to him, in spite of the doubts of her handmaid Susuki.
A choir
setting on an original solo aria: it’s the crazy challenge of our "Arias
be good" series (Les grands airs vous feront du bien).
